Candace & Zen

Where did you group up? How did you decide to stay here?

Candace

I grew up on the East Coast and moved here to be with Zen and all the amazing food SF has to offer.

Zen

I grew up in two states on the East Coast, first in Maryland near Baltimore and then moved to New Hampshire near Boston when I was 13. Both places were in the suburbs with green lawns and all four seasons. That’s something we miss from the East Coast. I came out here for a job in 2006 and have stayed ever since.

What do you love the most about your neighborhood?

Zen

I love how friendly our neighbors are and how well we’ve gotten to know them through living here. I love how close both Burlingame downtowns are and how many dogs there are on the streets. The massive deciduous trees and green lawns aren’t that common for the Bay Area and it reminds me of the East Coast. I love being able to walk around the neighborhood with our newborn son. I also appreciate how close our home is to both 101 and 280 highways which makes commuting and visiting other towns in the Peninsula fairly easy.

Candace

Our neighbors! Everyone is friendly and like family. I love that the kids play outside in the front yard, that people say hello when they walk by, and that there are so many dogs.

What surprised you the most about the home buying process?

Zen

How many different and distinct neighborhoods there were just in one town (Burlingame)!

My experience working with Raziel was ___________ .

Zen

Very Positive!

When I first met Raziel at an open house, I was impressed with how much time he spent chatting with us even when it was clear we weren’t interested in that particular home. We ran into him a few more times after that and realized how popular he was in Burlingame. We appreciated how open, thoughtful and low pressure he was about finding the right home for us.

Raziel was great about breaking down the neighborhoods so we could focus on aspects that appealed to us and better understand the local market. When I did bid, I felt like we had a pretty good understanding of what to expect in terms of process and market price. Raziel has always made it a point to make sure we’re taken care of, even afterwards with his vendor list and getting our home remodeled. We’ve leaned on him heavily whenever we’ve had home questions. He’s been invaluable for making us feel welcome in Burlingame!

Candace

Easy!

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Zen

Being a parent to my son!

What was your childhood ambition?

Candace

A dolphin trainer or figure skater. Kristi Yamaguchi was my hero!

Zen

When I was a kid I always wanted to be an astronaut. Then when Top Gun came out I wanted to be a pilot, until I learned about the vision requirements.

What’s your favorite hidden gem?

Zen

I like walking from home to Happy Donut and getting a heart shaped Boston crème chocolate donut as a reward.

Candace

The Easton Addition branch of the Burlingame Library. It’s small, but I love that we can walk there. You can also pick up books on hold at Easton if you don’t want to go to the main branch downtown.

What’s on the top of your bucket list item?

Zen

I’d like to go to space and view Earth from afar.
