World Pumpkin Capital Celebrates The Great Gourd
Half Moon Bay hosts the 42nd Annual Art & Pumpkin Festival on Historic Main Street on October 13th and 14th. You’ll be stunned by the Volkswagen-sized champion pumpkins on display and the talented pumpkin carvers, who will be sculpting and shaping a 1200+ pound pumpkin into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Discover crafts by top artists and the richest, tastiest pumpkin pie on the planet. There will be three stages for entertainment, The Great Pumpkin Parade, with 49er great Steve Young serving as honorary Grand Marshal, the debut of Spider Jump’s bungee jump, contests for the whole family, and so much more.
Of course there will fabulous food, many featuring products from local farms. In addition to pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin ice cream and smoothies, and chicken pumpkin sausages, you can also try artichoke hearts with garlic, olive oil and herbs, chicken and beef tamales, hamburgers, kettle corn, and corn dogs … and many more tasty treats that are sure to please all you foodies.
The Festival will also feature the work of 28 local artists on Sunday, October 14th at “Made on the Coast,” a one-day pop-up show where artists will offer demonstrations, including pottery thrown by Tom Shuman and Randall Reid. (Artists will be donating a percentage of their profits to a local arts organization, so you can buy wonderful pieces and support the arts at the same time.)
For all those football fans who can’t even think of a Sunday without a team sport or two, drop into the Comcast Take 5 Lounge and take a break while watching NFL and NCAA football and the MLB playoffs on a giant LED screen.
