Bay Area Summertime Must Do List: 2nd Edition

Summer is in the air and we’re enjoying the Bay Area’s endless cultural offerings and festivals galore! Take advantage of the diverse culinary, arts, and music events happening all around over the next month:

Gilroy Garlic Festival

Friday July 26-Sunday July 28, 10 am-7 pm, 7473 Monterey Street (at 5th Street), Gilroy

From Garlic ice cream to the more-traditional Garlic Bread, eat your heart out at this 35th annual celebration! There are food demos (Top Chef!), a Wine Pavilion, live entertainment, and Kids Areas so there really is something to please everyone!

Stern Grove Festival

Every Sunday at 2 p.m. through Aug. 18 at Stern Grove

Join performance arts enthusiasts from across the Bay Area at the Stern Grove Festival’s 76th season. We love this festival not only because it’s admission-free but also the performing arts series gives locals and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy a diverse collection of performance arts in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater. If you’ve never been to the festival, this summer’s line up will convince you to check it out. Some highlights and our favorites include the San Francisco Ballet on July 28 and the San Francisco Opera on August 18.

Renegade Craft Fair

Saturday July 27-Sunday July 29th, Fort Mason Center Festival Pavilion

Kind of like a weekend devoted to Etsy and other handmade one-of-a-kind wonders the famed website has inspired! Happening at Fort Mason Center--one of the best SF treats with a prime view of the bay--it is a fun way to scour your next craft obsession while also catching a little SF sun.

Tartine Afterhours: Franny's Crostini Extravaganza & Book Signing

Wednesday, July 31st from 8-11pm

We all have heard of the culinary masterpieces featured in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood, namely Tartine’s delectable breads and pastries. If you love crostini and New York style Italian cuisine, you will love this new cookbook—fresh off the press featuring Franny’s Brooklyn’s Simple Seasonal Italian. Pick up a ticket and a copy of the book for $65 and mix and mingle with like-minded foodies.

Give back to the Community with Dining for Bingo!

Who doesn’t love Bingo? This is a family favorite with a twist. Dine at some of San Francisco’s hottest restaurants including, Coco500, Bar Tartine, and Monk’s Kettle while supporting SF food nonprofit 18 Reasons, which empowers social change through food. Purchase a $25 bingo card, collect receipts from five adjoining restaurants on this card, and BINGO! You'll receive an 18 Reasons membership, a pat on the back for giving back, and membership perks including a free scoop at Bi-Rite Creamery, $5 off a pizza at Pizzeria Delfina, and so much more. This is a food adventure for a bigger cause!

SF Chefs 2013

Saturday July 27- Sunday July 28, Thursday August 1-Sunday August 4. Locations vary.

This foodie fest will blow your mind with eat/drink and celeb chef sightings. From the free preview in the Ferry Building Plaza on the 27th to the many chef demos and parties, this is the gourmet event of the season in San Francisco.

Nihonmachi Street Fair

Saturday, August 3-Sunday August, 4, 11 am-6pm, Japantown

SF's Chinatown may be one of its international attractions, but it's neighbor Japantown near the Fillmore is also a mecca of culture, food, and fun. This street fair will not only entertain you (can you say sushi) but there will also be fun dog-centric attractions for your four-legged friends!

Outside Lands Music Festival

Friday, August 9-Sunday, August 11, 11 am-10 pm, Golden Gate Park

Summer is Festival Season and there is no better outdoor concert fest in the Bay than Outside Lands. Hit up Golden Gate Park and watch a full line-up of great bands, from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Vampire Weekend.

San Francisco Street Food Festival

Saturday, August 17, 11 am to 7 pm, Folsom Street (in between 20th and 26th streets)

SF has some of the best food in the world and ever since gourmet food trucks have become the hot on-the-go option, this one-day-only Food Fest has become the hot-ticket. From popular restaurants to yummy desserts, eat your heart out!

First City Festival

Saturday August 24-Sunday August 25, Monterey County Fair and Event Center, 2004 Fairground Road

If you can't make it to Outside Lands but you're dying to jam to live tunes, fear not! This Monterey festival is a fabulous way to round out the summer by catching some alternative music (Passion Pit and MGMT will have you dancing in no time) while also checking out the fun carnival rides!

Enjoy! Check out Refinery 29, SF Arts and SF Gate Events for more fun summer options!
