If you’re thinking about a family camping trip, be glad you live in San Mateo County. You don’t have to go any further than Memorial Park in Loma Mar for a great family outing. There are three family camping areas with a total of 158 camp sites. A maximum of four people can be accommodated per site in the Bay Tree Flat Area, and a maximum of eight people per site can be accommodated in the Azalea Flat and Sequoia Flat areas. All three sites have water and shower facilities and firewood is sold on site.
Memorial Park is open year-round for camping, and the family picnic sites are located at the East End of the park boasts outstanding old-growth redwoods and has picnic facilities, a visitor center, a camp store, a swimming area and campfire programs. Check with the park for details.

If sandy beaches, sunbathing and fishing are more your style, visit Half Moon Bay State Beach campground.
Francis Beach, at the end of Kelly Avenue has a campground with 52 individual sites, some for tent camping, others for trailers or RVs. There are no hookups, but there is a dump station and coin-operated hot showers.
Venice Beach, at the end of Venice Boulevard off Highway 1 has outside showers, flush toilets and a pay phone.
Note: Dogs are prohibited on the beaches at all times, but they are permitted in the campground, provided they are controlled with a leash no more than six feet long.
