College of San Mateo Offers Courses for DIYers and more

Whether you’re already a homeowner or planning to become one, the College of San Mateo has a series of classes for you. From the initial purchase, through decorating, landscaping, remodeling, and even retirement, there is a course to help you make the right decisions.

Home Buying 101:

Buying a home is the biggest purchase you’ll ever make, so you’ll want to be as prepared as possible. Learn everything you’ll need to he finer points of the purchase contract, disclosure requirements, negotiation strategies, financing, home inspection, title, escrow, taxation, and more. Raziel Ungar, ranked in the top 1% of San Mateo County Realtors has a wealth of experience and has taught at community colleges and other venues. Raziel will help guide you so that your home buying experience is as exciting as the home buying process itself.

Now that the holidays are over, you may be ready for a complete home makeover, or you may just want to add a little life and luxury to what you already have. The College of San Mateo’s Secrets of Home Interior Decorating I class with Beryn Hammil will help you discover your color palette and learn how to use color and design principles to help you create a beautiful, luxurious interior.

After completing Secrets of Home Interior Decorating I, you can expand on what you learned in Secrets of Home Interior Decorating II. Designer Beryn Hammil will help you understand different aspects of home design. Learn about lighting, window treatments, flooring, carpeting, and more. One session will even be dedicated to helping you address with your own project needs!

Note: Secrets of Home Interior Decorating I is a pre-requisite for this class.

If remodeling your kitchen or bath is on your to-do list, check out the Kitchen and Bath Remodeling and Design class at the College of San Mateo. Designer Beryn Hammil will help you design a functional and beautiful space, and will teach you how best to deal with contractors and vendors. One class will be dedicated to reviewing your own kitchen and/or bath remodel needs.

With Spring coming soon, you’re probably thinking about how you can beautify your garden. The College of San Mateo offers classes in Basic Landscaping Design that will help turn your garden into a relaxing and beautiful sanctuary.Glenn Hansen, an experienced landscape designer with a Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University, will help you turn your design dreams into reality and take the mystery and stress out of creating a stress-free landscape.

Peninsula Garden Tour:

If you need some inspiration for your landscaping project, join the spring garden tour of a Hillsborough garden. Popular landscape designer Topher Delaney will take you on a tour of a garden filled with organic art. Learn about edible plantings, perennials, and grading, along with materials for paving, terraces, retaining walls, and swimming pool design. Explore the use of architectural elements and the use of outdoor paint to help transform your landscape into a showplace.

Passport to Retirement:

If you’ve finally reached retirement age – or even if you’re not quite there yet, but want to be ready – you can find out everything you need to know at the College of San Mateo. Retirement is more than just the end of your working career, so you’ll want to know if your investments could be earning more, how to guarantee your income, and protect your money from inflation, taxes, and long-term care needs. Gain insight into Social Security and pension options, as well as the essentials for managing your day to day finances and manage your investments. You might even find out that you’ll be able to retire early!

Certified Financial Planner, David Cuellar, will answer all of your questions, and you will receive a free 150-page workbook and a personalized financial blueprint to help you to a successful retirement.
