Marina Point is also noteworthy because it was the neighborhood under construction when Foster City incorporated, on April 27, 1971. On that date, 98% of local citizens, frustrated by their lack of governmental representation under the leadership of the Estero Municipal Improvement District, voted to incorporate.
Streets in Marina Point are named after ships (or parts of ships, which gives us streets named Mainsail Court and Topsail Court) and the neighborhood is convenient to shopping at Marlin Cove and the Charter Square shopping center on Shell Boulevard. Unlike most other Foster City neighborhoods, Marina Point has no waterfront single-family homes. The area’s waterfront property is occupied by condominiums and apartments, most notably by the Beach Cove Apartments (along Catamaran Street) and Marina Point Village, the large condominium complex located between Beach Park Boulevard and Compass Street.
Marina Point’s single-family inventory is laid out in a series of cul-de-sacs, growing out of both sides of Schooner Street and one side of Catamaran. Two sides meet at Ketch Park, which joins with another segment of the Bay Trail – this time running down the southern end of the neighborhood, parallel to the Beach Park Boulevard and the Belmont Slough – as Marina Point’s only public open spaces. Homes in Marina Point command similar prices to single-family homes in Treasure Isle, Bay Vista, and Carmel Village, beginning in the mid- $1 millions and ranging into the low $2 millions. Homes are large, with three to five bedrooms, and anywhere from 1,500 to more than 3,000 square feet of living space.
Condos and townhouses make up a significant portion of Marina Point real estate. Marina Point Village, the Sand Harbor development and Bayfront Court offer newer properties built in the 1970s and 1980s, one, two- and three-bedroom units which sell for anywhere from $750,000 to over $1.2 million.
