History
In the 1860s, when the Spring Valley Water Company built a flume in Western Millbrae, it effectively cut the city in two. The land to the south was the first to be developed. The north remained flower and vegetable farms until after World War II. Glenview Highlands, located southwest of the Green Hills Country Club, on land once owned by Custodio Silva, an early Millbrae settler. Silva owned 168 acres of ranch land now bordered by Taylor and Anita Avenues, between El Camino Real and Skyline Boulevard. Part of that land is now known as Silva Ranch/Telescope Hills. The westernmost portion eventually became Glenview Highlands.
Development in the western hills began in the early 1960s. Few Glenview Highlands homes date back past that. Today, approximately 1,500 people live in Glenview Highlands.
