Buri Buri

Named after the original Spanish land grant rancho that once covered all of South San Francisco — along with San Bruno, Millbrae and parts of Burlingame — the Buri Buri neighborhood is another built during South City’s massive post-World War II period of growth. 1,200 homes were built here between 1947 and 1957. Originally priced at between $7,000 and $12,500, single-family Buri Buri homes now command up to and above $1 million, with recent sales falling into a range of $965,000 and $1.25 million. For that price, buyers get homes ranging in size from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet (homes at the western edge of Buri Buri, closest to Junipero Serra Boulevard, are the largest — and newest — in the neighborhood) on lots that are slightly larger than those found in comparable city neighborhoods. Buri Buri lots are seldom smaller than 5,000 square feet, with many clocking in at 6,000 or more.
