Rising Against Hunger Again
I’m excited to share some of the great moments from our second annual volunteering event for Rise Against Hunger that we held on Saturday, January 20th at the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Center. We had over 100 people join including a ton of kids, which is one of the great things about this event because any kid over the age of four can participate.
Rise Against Hunger is a growing global movement to end hunger by nourishing and empowering communities. Almost 2.3 billion people around the world (or 30% of our global population) live with food insecurity. At Rise Against Hunger, 4 main pathways methods are used to tackle food insecurity. The first pathway is Nourishing Lives, which revolves entirely around these volunteer meal packaging programs. The second pathway is Empowering Communities, it all starts with a meal and it all starts with volunteers like you who are willing to give up your time. The third pathway is Emergency Relief - 10% of all the meals that we package globally are reserved just for emergency relief. The last pathway is spreading the movement.
We hope to spread the movement by educating others on the current state of hunger in the world and what they can do to help. In this two-hour volunteering event, we packed over 12,000 meals and we all had an amazing time! I’m looking forward to next year and hoping local organizations will be interested in partnering with us to promote this event to get the word out even more!
