Get Creative - Make Candles, Decorate Cakes - Impress Your Friends
If you don’t already know about the wonderful classes and activities at the College of San Mateo, now is the perfect time to check them out. Learn how to make your own natural, aromatic candles to enjoy at home, to give as gifts (think Valentine’s Day) or to sell. The natural waxes (soy wax and beeswax) burn cleaner and longer than synthetic paraffin candles, and they are better for you and the environment. In this one 3-hour class you will make and take home a soy container candle, a soy votive candle, and a pair of beeswax candles.

It's almost impossible to watch the cake decorating competitions on the food channels without thinking how cool it would be to know how to create those spectacular cakes. Now you can learn the fundamentals of working with rolled fondant. This icing medium is a popular way to decorate cakes, as it provides a smooth surface, almost like a canvas, that allows for greater creativity in cake design.
Learn about covering cakes, beaded borders, ruffles, bows and ribbons, figure modeling and fondant flowers from Kathy MacDonald, who has been decorating cakes in the Bay Area for more than 28 years. You’ll work in a real bakery setting and by the time the class ends, you will be ready to impress your guests with your own home-made, edible work of art
